16- How do the teachers who speak English in class teach the students
whose knowledge of English is at zero level to speak English?
Understanding the answer to this question will be easier if we take into account
the way children learn words during the early years of their lives. After birth,
children are not able to speak to their parents with their tongue. Without a particular
attention, children at last learn to talk their mother tongue. They acquire the
understanding and ability and of using language as their parents constantly repeat
a word or phrase while demonstrating the meaning of their purpose with their movements.
Thus, without any particular attention to this issue, they master using their language
at various situations. Through speculation they learn that words do not exist in
gaps. However, adult learners have an advantage over children learners. Due to their
mature attitude, they are aware that the teachers’ aim for role playing is to demonstrate
the language that they are trying to learn. Moreover, the student has the ability
of imitation for the purpose of learning. Therefore, EFL teachers (teachers of English
as a foreign language) must not only apply the above mentioned methods but also
enhance their skills for the efficient usage of these methods in order to become
skilled, confidant and well-trained teachers of English as a foreign language.
17- How long and when should I study English?
Most of the people, intending to learn English, can generally make usage of the
designated lessons for the enhancement of comprehension, reading and writing. Attaining
these lessons is usually on the long term and achieving the native like fluency
is possible after 600 hours of study. In accordance to your present level of English
language and the particular time limitation of these classes, they last from several
months to whenever you feel like studying. Classes of the duration of ten hours
or over ten hours are usually considered as intensive classes. Classes of two or
three months or less length are usually only designed for putting an emphasis on
listening and speaking skills. However, such classes are for those who intend to
make progress in their English and be able to speak within the minimum time possible
and are mainly for people with limited time. Basically, short intensive classes,
attempt to focus on a limited range of words and grammatical structures. It is expected
that the students can both learn and also make use of them with the limited time
span of these classes. It is expected that this method is sufficient for helping
the learners to achieve their goals for learning the English language.
